Unreal Engine as the front end of a living world.

Unreal renders worlds and twins in real time, and Pixel Streaming can send the view to a browser. Ipnops connects the state of a twin to the scene and carries what happens in it back out. Unreal and Epic Games are named to describe what works together; this is not an endorsement or a partnership.

A twin viewed in a real-time viewport
01The path
A simulated world inside a living world

From a twin to a pixel.

A twin's scene and state are applied to an Unreal world. The engine renders it; stills and clips go to the person who reviews and decides, and the live view goes to a browser through Pixel Streaming.

02What is in place
Rigid bodies in a physics simulation
Engine

Unreal Engine 5.8.3, built from source on the Windows render host.

Supported
World building

A Python world builder generates terrain as a landscape heightmap, adds a physical sky and fixed exposure, and checks collision by line trace.

Supported
Rendering

Movie Render Pipeline stills and clips for twins and scenes, driven through Render's Unreal tools.

Supported
Live view

Pixel Streaming 2 sends the engine's view to a browser.

Characters

MetaHuman characters inside the engine.

Supported
Learning and crowds

Learning Agents, NNE and Mass are part of the build.

Available on request
Live binding

Machine readings driving the state of a scene as they arrive.

03How it connects
A machine and its digital twin
Data path

Out of the twin: scene description and state variables. Into the interface: renders, views and the decisions a person makes in the browser.

Mechanism

The engine runs on the render host and is driven through its Python interface from Render's tools. Pixel Streaming carries the live view.

Trust path

A scene shows the twin; it does not command a machine. Any command still leaves through the gate with its approval.
