The world as it is, measured live.

Sense brings the measurements of places and machines into their twins: live, typed, signed and graded.

Supported · application
A sensor module with inertial, pressure and gas sensing
01What it does
A building with sensors on every floor
Places

Sound, air, energy and occupancy, from what a building already measures.

Supported
Machines

State and readings from controllers and equipment, in their own units.

Supported
Nodes

Small devices fixed to a machine, a structure or a site take the measurements. Each reading is verified on arrival and attributed to the node that took it.

Supported
One record

Every reading with where it came from and how precise it is.

Supported
02How it decides
Signed readings passing through gates
read-only

It never writes.

Sense has no way to send a command. Acting belongs to Pilot, and Pilot asks a person.

observed

What was measured, said plainly.

Readings are kept apart from predictions.

verified

A reading that fails its checks is not used.

A reading that cannot be traced to a node, or does not verify, stays out of calibration and out of every score.

feeds the twin

The real world back into the model.

Verified readings calibrate a twin and test it against the real thing.

03What it measures
A lab analyser feeding measurements to Ipnops

One unit for each quantity.

A measurement is named by its quantity, carries one unit and is checked against a range. A reading outside the range is refused, not clipped. Where a site states an uncertainty, it travels with the value as one standard deviation in the same unit.

Motion

Acceleration in metres per second squared, angular rate in radians per second, and vibration as a quantity of its own.

m/s², rad/s
Orientation

A unit quaternion from a sensor's own fusion of motion and gravity.

inferred
Field

Magnetic field, in µT.

µT
Pressure

Pascals, 1,000 to 200,000.

Pa
Temperature

Degrees Celsius, −100 to 1,000.

°C
Humidity

Percent relative, 0 to 100.

%RH
Air quality

Gas resistance in ohms as a trend; index and gas equivalents from the sensor maker are kept as separate kinds and withheld while the sensor stabilises.

Ω
Electrical

Power in watts, current in amps, voltage in volts, energy in kilowatt hours.

W, A, V, kWh
Light, flow, sound

Illuminance in lux, liquid flow in litres per minute, air speed in metres per second, sound level in decibels. Audio itself never leaves the device.

lx, L/min, m/s, dB
Machines

Position of a joint, axis or body in radians or metres; velocity; torque in newton metres; force in newtons; a status code. The unit says which, and a band in one unit is never read in the other.

rad, m, N·m, N
04Derived signals
A room with a microphone array and sound paths

Computed only where the number means something.

A derived signal is computed in the regime where it is valid and refused outside it. The result carries the lowest grade of its inputs.

Tilt angle

From one acceleration triple, while gravity dominates.

°
Vibration RMS

From at least eight acceleration triples, with the mean magnitude removed.

m/s²
Angular speed

The norm of the angular-rate vector.

rad/s
Field strength

The norm of the magnetic-field vector. A change from a site's baseline marks nearby motors, steel or current.

µT
Dew point

From temperature and humidity by the Magnus formula.

°C
Pressure height change

Against a stated reference pressure.

m
Mechanical power

One torque times one angular velocity of the same shaft at the same instant.

W
05Devices and integrations
A microcontroller board signing its readings

Readings arrive from nodes and from the buses a site runs.

Signed nodes, six observe-only bus adapters and a Holoscan record sink feed the same interface. See the devices and the integrations.
